Yeast!

  Hey readers, Today we will be learning about yeast.

What is yeast?

Yeast is fungi and it has been around for 1000s of years.

Yeast can make?

-Bread

-Beer

You can find Natural yeast in the air.

There are over 100 different kinds of yeast.

The yeast releases carbon dioxide.  

Equipment:

Spoons

Kettle

Bowl

Beaker

Cloth sieve

Funnel

Plastic(PET) bottle and cap

Materials

Bug (for a group of 3)

50ml warm water

1/2 tsp active dried yeast 

1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp ground ginger

Ginger beer (for 1 litre)

3/4 cup sugar 

1/2 tsp cream of tartar 

1L cold water

juice of 1/2 lemon 

1 tsp ginger beer bug

Method: 

1. In a large bowl, Put the sugar and cream of tartar, Then add the warm water.

2. Stir to dissolve the sugar before adding the cold water.

3. Add the ginger beer bug to the large bowl of cold water.

4. Stir well and then pour into your clean bottle.

5. Label your bottle with your groups name's.

6. Place all the bottles in the class container.

7. Store in a cool, Dark place for one week before drinking.

8. Make sure you open the bottle in the kitchen sink as it might overflow. Open the cap bit by bit  allow the air to escape.

1. What is fermentation? The chemical breakdown of a substance by bacteria, yeasts, or other microorganisms, typically involving effervescence and the giving off of heat.

2. What effect does sugar have on yeast? Too little sugar in dough can slow down yeast activity: Yeast is a lot like us – it loves to eat sugar. Yeast needs sugar to produce.

Ginger Beer!

 Hey readers, This blog is about making ginger beer in science!!!

•  The ginger beer must be drunk over the 6 days
• You must provide your own bottle 

Today we made ginger beer in class. We did this by activating the yeast first by adding sugar to the yeast, putting some ginger and warm water in a cup together. Once we had done this we put it to the side and left it to ferment while we made the rest of the ginger beer. We made the ginger beer in an ice cream container by adding first the sugar, then the water, some lemon juice and lastly the ginger beer bug. Once everything was mixed up we put it in a bottle. It is going to take about 6 days to turn into ginger beer. Mr Palmer is going to keep it in his office for the next week.

Tokyo Olympics 2020

 Hey readers, Today this blog will be about the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

For the past weeks we have been learning about the Olympics. There was so many people participating and in the end we ended up with so many medal and the medals we got were we got 7 gold, 6 sliver and 7 bronze.

Chilli Tasting Experiment

Hey readers,

Aim: To see which is the best way to cool down the hot chillie taste in your mouth when eating chili.

I think that by using coke I will be able to remove the hot chili taste from my mouth.

Equipment:

1. Milk

2. Water

3. Coke

4. Tasting cup

5. Chili

Method:

1. You will work in groups of three for this experiment. Each person in the group will use one of the drinks with the chilli. 

You will then swap results in your group so that everyone has the same results.

2. Each member of the group needs to have their own tasting cup. 

This will be used for putting the different liquids in as we cool off the chili in our mouths.

3. Place a piece of chili in your mouth.

4. After 10 seconds you will drink the liquid that you have in your cup. As you do this you will complete a result chart.

You will be recording the following using yes or no:

The effectiveness of the liquid immediately 

The effectiveness of the liquid after 10 seconds

Chilli Tasting Results

Record : Yes or No

	Immediately	After 3 minutes
Milk	yes	yes
Water	no	yes
Coca Cola	yes	yes

Summary: 

The milk did work immediately: After 3 minutes it had a small effects.

Coca cola had some effect. After 3 minutes it was gone.

Water did not work immediately. After 3 minutes nope.

Conclusion:

Milk could be a solution when eating spicy foods - literally. That's because milk helps your mouth handle capsaicin,

an oily chemical compound in chili peppers. Capsaicin binds to a receptor in the tongue and creates a burning sensation

Casein protein found in milk can also bind to the capsaicin and wash it away.

Method:

1. Took out the bunsen burner.

2. Set the bunsen burner out along with the heat mat.

3. Took out the tripod and placed in on top of the bunsen burner.

4. Placed the gauze mat on top of the tripod.

5. Got safety glasses .

Equipment:

1. Bunsen Burner

2. Safety Glasses

3. Heat mat

 4. Tripod

5. Gauze mat

1. The hottest part of the flame is the inner.

2. The order of lighting a bunsen burner is lighting the match first then turn of the tap.

Questions:

Where is the broken glass put? The broken glass bin.

How do you stop all class gas tap? You press the turn and press the big red gas button

Where is the fire extinguisher? Near the emergency exit door.

When should you wear safety glasses? When your playing with fire.

Mufti Day!!!

Hey people,

(The 1st of July) is mufti day which if you don't know what mufti day is,  it's where you get to wear your  clothes you wear on a normal day. I wore a tie dye white and grey shirt with people on it from a show, with black leggings. But we had to donate a gold coin and if we didn't have it we had to go see the teacher. Good thing i didn't forget my coin because the teacher was not very happy with the people who forgot their money.   

 There were a bunch of cool outfits I saw. Do you have mufti days? If so what would you wear?

SNAZZY ART CLASS!!!!!!

 Hey readers, 

For months and weeks we have been working on stop motion. We don't have a video yet but instead i'm going to tell you about it and show you photos of the characters, we only have two characters to show you and to tell you about.

The first character is an alien which is like a dog a bit,  but his face is on his back. The next character is a human she doesn't really have much fetchers.

Next the story is About a human who finds an alien and then they become best friends and then the human takes the alien as a pet.

Wonder

 This week we watched a movie about Bullying and how it hurt a boy called Auggie. He had a big sister called Via/Oliva

He was picked on because of his facial condition.

When he was wearing a mask on Halloween he heard his friend say If he looked like that I would kill myself.

This made Auggie feel hurting, sick and down.

Here’s a quote from: “and I feel ordinary, But i know ordinary kids don’t make other ordinary kids run away screaming in the playground”

Cyberbullying!

 Hey readers,

Today's blog is about cyber bullying. which is some thing we have been learning about.

 information I studied about cyber bullying included the fact that its possible to attack people and remain anonymous digital information spreads quickly to multiple locations and leaves a permanent record. You can be fined or jailed if you spread harmful information.

Floods.

 Hi everybody,

The subject I'm talking about in this blog is about our recent floods. Heavy rain started on 29th May and continued for at least 48 hours. Because of all the rain pouring down constantly it caused bad floods and overflowing on rivers and lakes. Some people have been really unlucky and gone into peoples houses.

 It cause really bad flooding, animals were being killed. People were trap in the terrible floods.

There was two people in a car a child and her dad they got saved by a tractor Chris and his friend but Chris  found the car and then another farmer and his tractor drove to the car and put life jackets in the car so they can swim out or they would of died.
